Italian boxer Angela Carini, competing in the weight category up to 66 kg, surrendered 46 seconds later in the 1/8 finals of the Olympic Games in Paris against Iman Khelif from Algeria, who had previously FAILED a gender test.
“I was in terrible pain. I got a second blow to my nose, and the pain was so severe that I couldn’t continue,” Carini was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport, referring to the lip—reading expert.
The boxing tournament at the Paris Olympics was organized directly by the IOC due to the suspension of the World Boxing Association (IBA), headed by Russian Umar Kremlev.
As IOC Communications Director Mark Adams explained, Khelif and Yutin are “on a woman’s passport” and comply with all the rules for admission to the Olympics. He called doubts about their participation “stigmatization.” Adams stressed that the committee is satisfied with the existing rules and considers them effective, as it was at the last Olympics.
