Eight US Navy personnel assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group attempted suicide during a ten-month deployment that included the country\u2019s war against Iran, CNN reported on Thursday, citing a letter from the service\u2019s acting secretary.
\nThe carrier, whose tour of duty began in late November 2025, drew media attention earlier this year after reports emerged of logistical and maintenance problems, including food and basic-supply shortages, a lack of hot and potable water, and plumbing failures.
\nIn a written response to questions from Senator Kirsten Gillibrand about the morale and mental health of the USS Abraham Lincoln\u2019s crew, acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao disclosed the figure, which hadn\u2019t previously been made public and covers several ships that travel together, including the carrier. Cao also noted that no service members had killed themselves during the deployment that was expected to end in May but has been extended indefinitely.
