International interest in BRICS \u201ccontinues to grow\u201d as the group\u2019s values and independent approach attract countries around the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday.
\nSpeaking at a BRICS Outreach\/BRICS Plus session that concluded its 18th summit in New Delhi, Putin pointed to the broad participation in the meeting as evidence of its growing appeal.
\n\u201cOur basic values and ideals, such as commitment to an independent and autonomous course and the desire to resolve problems collectively based on international law and the key provisions of the UN Charter, appeal to many around the world,\u201d he said.
\nBRICS has expanded significantly beyond its original five members \u2013 Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa \u2013 in recent years and introduced a partner-country category for states seeking closer cooperation without full membership.
\nPutin described the organization as \u201cone of the powerful driving forces\u201d behind strengthening \u201cgenuine multilateralism\u201d and forming a \u201cnew, fairer multipolar world order.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trade among BRICS members has reached $1.2 trillion, and they account for almost a quarter of global exports and 49% of global GDP growth, according to Putin.
\n\u201cThe potential for the further development of BRICS is far from exhausted,\u201d he said, pointing to opportunities for new production chains, technologies, services, and markets.
\nBRICS countries have also developed their own channels for moving goods, services, and capital, allowing financial and commercial operations to be conducted \u201cwithout paying attention to external pressure,\u201d Putin said.
\nHe urged participants to consider Russian proposals for \u201cbuilding BRICS payment and settlement-depository infrastructure,\u201d as well as establishing a reinsurance mechanism and a grain exchange.
\nPractical steps have already been taken. On the eve of the summit, the Russian Direct Investment Fund, BRICS Pay and BRICS Pay India agreed to explore integrating the payment platform with India\u2019s existing infrastructure and to prepare pilot cross-border payment projects.<\/p>\n
