Nine other servicemen had previously also been detained in the case.
The incident revolves around what began as a personal dispute in the village of Kalinovka in Kiev Region, between the two brothers, Maksim and Roman Moseychuk, and Luchanov’s wife, who had complained that the men were riding motorcycles and playing loud music.
After she confronted them, the brothers allegedly insulted her. The woman reportedly complained to Luchanov, who demanded that the two men apologize. When they refused, he allegedly ordered several servicemen under his command to “punish” them.
In the early hours of June 28, armed men broke into the brothers’ property, abducted them and transported them to another region. Their bodies were later found buried in a forest in Poltava Region, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Luchanov and the other suspects are now being investigated for the illegal detention and premeditated murder of two civilians and could face life in prison if convicted. The commander has also reportedly been charged with desertion for abandoning his unit after the case became public.
The scandal has also drawn renewed attention to Luchanov’s previous service in the 425th Separate Assault Regiment ‘Skala’, which has itself been at the center of a major abuse scandal.

Commander of major Ukrainian military unit found dead with gunshot wound

Last month, Ukrainian outlet Babel reported alleged torture, beatings and non-combat deaths among mobilized recruits at Skala training sites, estimating that at least 25 recruits had died in or after passing through the unit’s camps over six months.
The Ukrainian military has since suspended the unit’s commander, Yury Harkaviy, pending an investigation.
The Ukrainian outlet Strana has reported that investigators are now also looking into mysterious disappearances of servicemen from Luchanov’s 155th Brigade. The outlet’s sources have claimed that soldiers who fell out of favor with the commander may have been killed and listed as combat losses.
The cases come as Ukraine faces worsening manpower shortages, mass desertions and growing public anger over forced mobilization. Ukrainian media have repeatedly reported violent draft raids, deaths in conscription centers and abuse inside military units.
Moscow, meanwhile, has accused Kiev of relying on coercion to replenish battlefield losses and sacrificing its own population to keep fighting on behalf of Western backers.

Stanislav Luchanov stands accused of ordering soldiers to kidnap and kill two brothers after a personal dispute A former Ukrainian brigade commander has been detained in Kiev over allegations that…

[4,6,3

post-37155","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-economy","category-environment","category-politics
["GET
