The use of AI in the US strike on a girls\u2019 elementary school in Iran that killed nearly 160 people, mostly children, did not violate Anthropic\u2019s \u2018red lines,\u2019 CEO Dario Amodei has said.
\nUS forces struck the school in Minab with a Tomahawk missile on the first day of the war on Iran in February. The institution was reportedly targeted based on outdated data used by Palantir\u2019s analysis and surveillance software, which incorporates Anthropic\u2019s Claude AI.
\nIn an interview with Bloomberg published on Wednesday, Amodei was asked whether his firm\u2019s AI had played a role in the deadly attack.
\n\u201cWe don\u2019t know exactly how these models were used\u2026 and what you\u2019re talking about is a use case that doesn\u2019t even violate our red lines,\u201d he said.
\nWhile AI assists the military, \u201ca human made that final call,\u201d he added, stressing that Anthropic opposes entirely autonomous weapons and decision-making systems.<\/p>\n
