US President Donald Trump has said that the \u201ccorrupt\u201d Minnesota governor Tim Walz could leave office before the end of his term because he was caught \u201cred-handed\u201d in an alleged fraud scheme involving the state\u2019s daycare centers. The Democrat had earlier announced his intention to not seek reelection.
\nMost of the establishments at the center of the federal investigation were allegedly run by members of Minnesota\u2019s Somali community, the state\u2019s largest immigrant group.
\nOn Monday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that \u201cGovernor Walz has destroyed the State of Minnesota.\u201d
\nWalz \u201cwill not be running again because he was caught, REDHANDED, along with Ilhan Omar, and others of his Somali friends, stealing Tens of Billions of Taxpayer Dollars,\u201d he claimed. Trump expressed confidence that the \u201cfacts will come out, and they will reveal a seriously unscrupulous, and rich, group of \u2018SLIMEBALLS\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, Walz said he had \u201cdecided to step out of the race\u201d and abandon his plans to \u201crun for a historic third term as Minnesota\u2019s Governor.\u201d He went on to accuse Trump and \u201chis allies\u201d of \u201cseeking to take advantage of the crisis\u201d as well as \u201cdemonizing our Somali neighbors and wrongly confiscating childcare funding that Minnesotans rely on.\u201d
\nIn late December, Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services Jim O\u2019Neill said that the federal government had \u201cfrozen all child care payments to the state of Minnesota.\u201d Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem stated that the agency was launching a \u201cmassive investigation on childcare and other rampant fraud\u201d in Minnesota.<\/p>\n
