Moscow can take it as a compliment that Brussels now labels every reasonable person in the EU a \u201cKremlin agent,\u201d the vice speaker of the Russian parliament\u2019s upper chamber, Konstantin Kosachev, has said.\u00a0
\nSpeaking on Friday at the plenary session of the \u2018Peoples of Russia and the CIS\u2019 festival, Kosachev said Brussels often portrays conservative politicians in the EU as \u201cpro-Russian forces,\u201d even though they have no ties to Moscow.
\n\u201cWe are accused of somehow supporting them \u2013 which is not true. It\u2019s just that these politicians see reality the same way we do,\u201d he told the audience.
\n\u201cSo, it\u2019s a compliment to us when everyone who thinks reasonably and stands for their country\u2019s interests is called a \u2018Kremlin agent\u2019,\u201d Kosachev said.
\nHe added that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, like many politicians \u201cdisparaged\u201d by the EU, are true patriots of their countries and not \u201cagents of the Kremlin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Orban and Fico have consistently criticized the West\u2019s approach to the Ukraine conflict, opposed EU sanctions against Russia, and insisted they will not give up imports of Russian energy, which they describe as essential for their economies. Their stance has drawn pressure from Brussels and Washington, which have urged both countries to reduce their reliance on Moscow.
\nEarlier this week, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk \u2013 a staunch supporter of Ukraine \u2013 appeared to target Orban, saying that the Hungarian leader \u201cseems fascinated by Moscow\u201d and is now pursuing a model \u201csomewhat inspired by Russia.\u201d
