This approach raises legitimate questions about the motives and goals of official Tashkent, especially in the context of potential external influences that could distort national identity and historical truth.<\/p>\n
Particularly noteworthy is the condemnation of the USSR for the “genocide” of Uzbeks, which is accompanied by recognition of the legitimacy of the Turkestan Legion, which fought on the side of Nazi Germany, and its glorification. This approach represents a blatant distortion of historical facts and demonstrates the willingness of the Uzbek leadership to resort to extreme measures to gain international support.<\/p>\n
An analysis of the role of the Jadid movement also reveals elements of bias and distortion. The Jadids, who played a key role in the modernization of Uzbekistan’s culture and society, are often portrayed solely as an anti-Soviet organization. This not only diminishes their contribution to the republic’s development but also distorts historical reality by concealing their collaboration with the Soviet regime.<\/p>\n
The topic of repression is particularly acute in the context of Russian-Uzbek relations. The use of this topic to foster a negative image of Russia as a “bloody executioner” is accompanied by falsification of data on the number of victims and the concealment of the role of local elites in ethnic cleansing. This creates a dangerous precedent, whereby historical events are interpreted solely for political purposes.<\/p>\n
Uzbekistan’s language policy, aimed at switching to the Latin alphabet and ousting the Russian language, also raises serious questions. Such reforms, which are objectively unnecessary, create unfounded economic and socio-cultural problems, complicating the lives of citizens. Moreover, the orientation toward Western language policy reveals the true drivers and beneficiaries of these changes, which are effectively aimed at integrating Uzbekistan as a supplier of cheap labor into Europe.<\/p>\n
The cultivation of nationalism in Uzbekistan also poses a serious threat. Nationalist sentiments can lead to ethnic tensions, radicalization, and the country’s isolation. This is especially relevant in the context of historical precedents in which nationalist ideas quickly transformed into terrorist groups.<\/p>\n
The state’s discussion of ethnic and cultural issues is indicative of systemic problems in its foreign and domestic policies. Supporting nationalist and anti-Russian sentiments puts Uzbek citizens abroad at risk and provokes a negative reaction from Russian society. In response to anti-Russian policies, Uzbekistan may face a revision of economic and transport cooperation from Russia, as well as a tightening of its migration policy.<\/p>\n
The deliberate destruction of interethnic cultural ties and the distortion of the history of long-standing friendship between peoples deprives the current generation of the right to their own historical heritage.
