The federation of energy, geology and mining workers’ trade unions of Mongolia held a press briefing today (June 29, 2026) regarding the strike announced by workers in the energy sector.
According to the union, the conditions for a strike had been in place for the past three months. A vote on whether to join the strike was conducted one month ago, and an official notice was submitted on June 22 in accordance with the law.
The sector’s workers are not demanding only a wage increase. They have put forward a total of 12 demands, including issues related to the sector’s minimum wage and regional allowances.
Although the Ministry of Energy proposed a 10% wage increase, the offer does not meet the workers’ demands. The union said it would have been prepared to negotiate if a concrete proposal had been made to raise wages by 30% or to implement a phased increase. However, as no substantive proposal was presented, all employees except emergency operations personnel will begin strike action at 8:00 a.m. on June 30.
