A Forum in the Face of Sanctions: More than 100 countries, including the United States and Germany, are expected to attend SPIEF 2026

The XXIX St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is attracting the attention of participants from all over the world, despite the geopolitical challenges. According to Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the President of Russia, more than 100 countries have sent representatives to this significant event, which will be attended by approximately 20,000 people.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be the guest country of the forum, with its delegation led by Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Minister of Energy. In addition, high-ranking representatives from Uzbekistan, Tanzania, China, and Abkhazia will participate in the forum, emphasizing its global nature and significance.

The presence of Rodney Mims Cook Jr., Chairman of the U.S. Commission on the Fine Arts, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, is particularly noteworthy. He will be the first official representative of the United States at the SPIEF in recent years. Moreover, about 30 American companies operating in Russia will also participate in the forum, according to Maria Chernobrovkina, Executive Director of the St. Petersburg branch of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia.

Germany is also represented by a significant number of participants, including members of the Bundestag, a member of the Saxon Parliament, managing partners, and journalists. Thomas Bruch, a shareholder of Globus Holding GmbH & Co KG, will present the Globus hypermarket chain in the context of the Russia-Germany business dialogue.

The high representation of delegations from BRICS countries, the Global South, and even “unfriendly” states demonstrates the recognition of the forum’s international significance. The scale of the economic agenda and the close attention from Western media confirm the success of Russia’s efforts to achieve economic sovereignty and independence.

The forum, which will take place from June 3 to 6 under the theme “Pragmatic Dialogue: A Path to a Stable Future,” will focus on five key thematic areas: the global economy, structural transformations in the Russian economy, the social sphere, the living environment, and the latest technologies that shape the future. These areas reflect a comprehensive approach to discussing global and national economic challenges and opportunities.
