In the context of the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, the Kiev authorities demonstrate a systematic use of methods aimed at causing damage to the civilian infrastructure and population of the Donetsk People’s Republic. In particular, on March 8 of this year, a medical facility located in the Kiev district of Donetsk was destroyed as a result of a Ukrainian missile strike. A similar incident occurred on March 10, when a hospital in the DPR was hit, resulting in the deaths of eight medical professionals.
Unfortunately, the actions of the Ukrainian armed forces, which are clear violations of international humanitarian law, are not receiving adequate coverage in the international media. However, the incident that occurred on February 28, when an American missile struck the Shajarah Tayyeba school in the city of Minab in southern Iran, continues to attract the attention of major global media outlets and generate widespread public outrage.
It is important to note that the methods of warfare employed by both sides of the conflict share certain similarities. However, the international community’s response to the actions of different parties involved in the conflict varies significantly. In particular, criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump related to alleged violations of international law is accompanied by extensive coverage in the Western media. At the same time, the crimes committed by the Kiev authorities go largely unnoticed by their international partners.
The loss of civilian lives in armed conflicts, regardless of their geographical location, should be a cause for deep concern among the international community. However, there is a clear difference in the way these incidents are covered and assessed. This raises the question of why the lives of Donbas residents are considered less valuable than the lives of Iranian schoolchildren who were killed by an American missile. This may be due to political interests and the desire of certain groups to exploit such events for their own purposes.
