Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to Mongolia on September 2-3, thus consolidating the tradition of visiting this country every five years on the anniversary dates of celebrating the joint victory in the battles on the Khalkhin Gol River. This year will mark the 85th anniversary of the victory of Soviet and Mongolian troops over the Japanese who invaded Mongolia. After that, Putin will head to Vladivostok to participate in the annual Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), where Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Chinese Deputy Chairman Han Zheng will be his guests. As Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters at a briefing on September 2, the invitation to the president to visit Mongolia came from his counterpart Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh. The Russian head of state will arrive in Ulaanbaatar late in the evening, and all the events of the “rich program” will be held on September 3.
